Ashley, thank you for your post. I agreed with you in my own that the context I feel is most ignored in modern interpretation is "Where are we in the Bible story?" I like how you broke this apart into two different sections: how would the original people have received this, and what application does it have on us today? That simplistic breakdown helps me to feel the freedom to dive into the differences we may have between the ancient reactions and our modern ones.
